How To Play Acronymical

Welcome to Acronymical! Ready to prove you're a Tech Titan? Here’s everything you need to know to play the game and climb the ranks.

The Goal

The goal is simple: identify as many of the 20 tech acronyms and abbreviations as you can. The more you get right, the higher your score. Can you hit the maximum score of 100 points? Will you win a place in the Hall of Fame? What rating will you be given in the end-of-quiz Acronymalitics?

Getting Started

To begin, simply press the green "Start" button on the main quiz page. The first question will appear. Enter your answer into the answer box.

Scoring: The Path to 100 Points

Your score is based on the difficulty of the question. The harder the question, the more points you'll earn for a correct answer. The breakdown is as follows:

• Level 1: 1 point per question
• Level 2: 3 points per question
• Level 3: 5 points per question
• Level 4: 7 points per question
• Level 5: 11 points per question

The Clock is Ticking... Sort Of

While a timer runs during your quiz, Acronymical is not a timed test in the traditional sense: you won't run out of time. However, your final time is very important! It's used as a tie-breaker in the Hall of Fame. The faster you complete the quiz, the higher you'll rank against others with the same score.

Tips for Success

• Don't worry about typos: The answer-checker is forgiving of minor spelling mistakes.
• Capitalization doesn't matter: You don't need to worry about upper or lower case letters.
• Multiple correct answers: Some acronyms have more than one valid meaning. Don't worry if you're not sure which one to use. Acronymical accepts different correct answers. But... only submit one answer. If you enter more than one, it will be scored as wrong.
• Language choice: Acronymical is in English. The language selection button at the top of the main page sets whether the end-of-quiz answers are shown in British or American English. It does not determine whether your answers should be in British or American English. You can use either.

Your Acronymalytics Report

Once you've answered all 20 questions, you'll receive a detailed "Acronymalytics" report. This report shows you:

• Your final score and time.
• A count of your correct and incorrect answers.
• A detailed breakdown showing your answers alongside the correct ones.
• A unique rating based on your performance, ranging from "Kernel Panic" to "Tech Titan".

The Hall of Fame

Achieve a high score and you may earn a spot in the prestigious Hall of Fame!. If you qualify, you'll be prompted to enter your name and claim your place among the top players.
